2012 NFL Mock Draft Preview

Washington Redskins: Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

Washington was on a look out to grab Griffin and move up and that is the reason why they gave up so much for the pick. Griffin’sarm-strength and speed does not come around very often.

Cleveland Browns: Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

With the selection of Richardson, it is clear that Cleveland is going to go offense. It sure looks like Trent Richardson is going to be the pick here, after they let Peyton Hillis walk.

Philadelphia Eagles, Melvin Ingram, OLB, South Carolina

Eagles are now trying to make amends to their glaring weaknesses in the defense. Through this year’s draft, the birds could very easily look to repair that linebacker position.

Seattle Seahawks: Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College

Seattle really needs to focus on improving that linebacking corps. Kuechly could be their immediate starter. DeCastro is also a good option if available. Seattle would prefer him.

Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

The Colts’ have their man now in Andrew Luck after letting Peyton to Denver. This pick is not going to change, although a new week is here. Luck to the Colts deal is nothing new.

Minnesota Vikings: Matt Kalil, OT, USC

The Vikings have the opportunity to grab Matt Kalil who is going to be a Pro Bowl left tackle for 10 years in the National Football League with Steve Hutchinson gone now.

Tampa Bay Bucs: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

Claiborne is on the verge of being a legitimate contender and he surely makes a lot of sense for a Tampa Bay team. His presence in the team will give Tampa Bay the much-needed support as Aqib Talib is on the verge of ending up in jail and Ronde Barber on the verge of retirement.

New York Jets, Lavonte David, OLB, Nebraska

David could land in the New York team and he is a surprise pick if he heads to the right team. For problems for Jets is that Aaron Maybin and Jamaal Westerman were not viable solutions, while Bryan Thomas to a torn Achilles tendon.

Brian Urlacher: Smartest Defender in the NFL?

Once upon a time the Chicago Bears had the greatest defense to ever take an NFL field. The 1985 Bears achieved legendary status after romping through the NFL and winning the Super Bowl but Brian Urlacher has brought back the swagger of the Bears defense in a big way.

Urlacher plays the linebacker position with a controlled recklessness. He has football instincts that allow him to be in the right place at the right time and when he arrives to meet the ball carrier it almost always results in a bone-jarring collision.

NFL legend Vince Lombardi spoke of football as a “collision sport.” Urlacher takes it to the next level. Any offensive player streaking across the middle of the Bears defense has one eye on the ball and the other looking out for Brian Urlacher.

Urlacher played his college years in New Mexico and despite the limited exposure, his legend began to grow early in his college career. Urlacher’s football instincts led his college coach, Rocky Long, to convert him into a hybrid defensive player. Urlacher was dubbed a “Lobo-Back,” a cross between a linebacker and a safety. He also returned punts for the Lobos.

Urlacher’s value to the Bears shows by how the team performed the two seasons he missed most of or all the season. Urlacher went down to injury in 2004 and 2009, the Bears records in those seasons: In 2004 they were 5-11 and in 2009 they were 7-9. The Bears have never had a winning season without their defensive leader on the field.

2012 NFL Mock Draft – An Overview

NFL DraftWith the NFL lockout looking to continue long into the rest of the spring and perhaps deep into the summer lets look a year into the future and take a chance on predicting what will happen in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The next draft might add players to the teams before the ones just drafted ever get a chance to step onto the playing field. Even with big football fans, most of these guys are not close to household names. Their names will rise or disappear at some point early next year, depending on their level of success in the collegiate football season, which will definitely not be delayed or cancelled in 2011.

Even though the chance to boost the Denver Broncos’ offense with a big time receiver is a smart move, they have a bigger need for a defensive tackle. Although whichever one is throwing it will love having Justin Blackmon going deep, Denver is struggling to find who their quarterback will be.

In the first round last year, the Broncos drafted a receiver, but injuries prevented Demaryius Thomas from really shining, and it is possible he could struggle in returning from the torn achilles tendon. Brandon Lloyd emerged as a legit receiver, although he is pretty much all they have.

With one of their 12 draft picks, the Washington Redskins surprisingly didn’t draft a quarterback. As soon as the lock out is over all signs are pointing to Donovan McNabb being traded. With Rex Grossman or John Beck the Redskins aren’t going to be very good.

In 2011, the Tennessee Titans will have a difficult season. The Titans will be drafting in the top five as Jake Locker will struggle.

End with great versatility Coples is a 6-foot-6, 255-pound. He has exceptional quickness and explodes off the line. For the Tar Heels the defensive end from North Carolina will be a dominant force and a lock for a top five pick in the 2012 draft.

2011 NFL Draft – Preview And Analysis

As the NFL draft (ESPN, April 28-30) approaches, former Arkansas Razorbacks quarterback Ryan Mallett is going to have a busy week.

Mallett will hold a private workout with the Dolphins and have a two-day visit with the Bengals this week, is considered by many to be the best pure passer in this year’s NFL draft according to NFL news.

In NFL Futures Betting to win the 2012 Super Bowl, Miami is at 40-1 and the Bengals at 100-1.

While the Bengals are at No. 4 the Dolphins don’t pick until No. 15. No 1 Carolina Panthers; No. 2. Denver Broncos; No. 3 Buffalo Bills and No. 5 Arizona Cardinals is the other top five 2011 NFL Draft first round order.

As the Dolphins’ quarterback position is up in the air because of the inconsistency of starter Chad Henne, Dolphins officials will run the 6-foot-6, 238-pound Mallett through drills and take a long look at the quarterback. On April 14-15 in Miami the Dolphins also will host an additional two-day visit with Mallett.

Mallett will visit the Bengals in Cincinnati for a two-day visit on Thursday and Friday after the Dolphins workout. After starter Carson Palmer demanded to be traded and threatened to retire, no surprise in the Bengals’ interest with Cincinnati’s quarterback position up for grabs.

For the Razorbacks, Mallett threw for 3,869 yards, 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season. Mallett ran the 40-yard dash in 5.37 seconds, and posted a vertical jump of 26 inches and a broad jump of 8 feet, 7.25 inches at his pro day.

NFL Lockout Injunction Hearing Set For April 6

Officially, the NFL has locked out its players although an April 6 court date may change that.

Against the league, the federal antitrust lawsuit filed by players and the hearing is part of that. An injunction which was filed by the NFL players last week would prevent the NFL from initiating a lockout and that took effect at midnight Friday.

By U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson in Minnesota the April 6 hearing is to be heard.

Hoping for some progress on the labor situation either now or at the April 6 hearing, NFL Betting fans are holding their breath.

Judge David Doty, who has overseen NFL labor matters since the early 1990s, the NFL players, had wanted the case before him.

The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, Michigan Rep. John Conyers, said on Monday he wants to get rid of the NFL’s antitrust exemption for broadcasting contracts. On behalf of all teams, the exemption allows the NFL to sign TV contracts as well as helped make the league into the economic powerhouse it is today.

The NFL is likely to play the 2011 season with no salary cap, using the same restrictions on player movement the league had in 2010, The Washington Post reported, if an injunction is granted as a result of the April 6 hearing.

There are plenty of Prop Bets for Super Bowl XLV

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers will square off in the Super Bowl this weekend. While the game should be a good one, the bets on the game sometimes attract just as much attention. There are normal things to bet on, but there are also other Super Bowl Prop Bets that encourage betting about things that are more like side notes to the game.

One example of a funny prop wager occurred last year. Reggie Bush was playing in the Super Bowl and he was dating Kim Kardashian. There was one bet in which you would choose whether the total of Reggie Bush’s yards, or Kim Kardashian’s measurements of 36-24-39 would be greater. There was also another bet about how many times Kardashian would appear on TV during the game despite not being a part of the game.

Not all Super Bowl prop betting is so obscure. This year there will be bets about how long the National Anthem will be. Generally the song takes around 2 minutes, but you can make a few dollars if you’re able to guess whether it will be longer or shorter than usual.

While these previous bets might be able to be predicted, there are other bets that are completely up to chance. One popular thing to bet on is whether the coin toss will be “heads” or “tails.” While this seems ridiculous, this is actually one of the most popular things to bet on at the Super Bowl.

Whether you know a lot about the Super Bowl, or if you know nothing about sports there will be a lot to bet on this weekend.

On Monday – NFL Announces A number Of Replacement Players

The NFL will hold its annual Pro Bowl Game on Sunday in Hawaii (7 pm ET, FOX), before the Super Bowl takes place Feb. 6, according to football news.

For this matchup Pro Bowl Betting Odds have not yet been posted.

Including Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who will replace Green Bay Packers receiver Greg Jennings, a number of replacement players were announced Monday and Fitzgerald is making his fifth Pro Bowl appearance.

As the game will be played a week before the two teams meet in the Super Bowl XLV in Dallas, players from both the Super Bowl-bound teams, the Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers, will be replaced with other top National Football League players. Due to injuries suffered in Sunday’s NFC Championship game, two Chicago Bears linebackers pulled out of the Pro Bowl as well.

While Washington Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo, Atlanta Falcons defensive back Brent Grimes and Tampa Bay Buccaneers left tackle Donald Penn will substitute for the Packers’ Clay Matthews, Charles Woodson and Chad Clifton, New Orleans Saints safety Roman Harper will replace Green Bay’s Nick Collins.

While Carolina Panthers linebacker Jon Beason will fill in for the Bears’ Lance Briggs. Redskins’ linebacker London Fletcher will replace Bears’ LB Brian Urlacher.

Even as linebacker Tamba Hali takes over for James Harrison, a pair of Kansas City Chiefs defenders was added to the Pro Bowl squad in place of Pittsburgh players with safety Eric Berry going instead of Troy Polamalu.

Baltimore Ravens Playoff, Super Bowl History

The Baltimore Ravens will be playing in the 2010 NFL Playoffs. This team does not have a history that goes back as far as many of the other teams in the postseason, but they have managed to become a perennial playoff team since the beginning of the 21st century.

Baltimore is at 12-1 in NFL superbowl betting Odds to win the Super Bowl in February.

Previous to the year 2000 the Ravens had never managed to make the playoffs. The year 2000 changed everything for the Baltimore Ravens.

Not only did the Ravens manage to make the playoffs that season, but they also managed to advance in the playoffs. They came out of nowhere to when the AFC Conference Championship and advanced to the Super Bowl. In their Super Bowl game the Ravens were able to put forth a stellar defensive effort en route to winning their first Super Bowl Championship ever.

Since that year the Ravens have been a serious threat to make the playoffs every season. They have made the playoffs 7 times in the history of their franchise. Each one of these playoff experiences has come since the turn of the century.

Despite frequenting the playoffs, the Ravens have not managed to return back to the Super Bowl since 2000. This season will be a chance for the Ravens to turn things around and gain back the winning feeling that they found in 2000. The Ravens have a lot of players on their team that have been in the playoffs before and they should be ready to take on any team that crosses their path.

Sunday Clash Between Tennessee Titans And Indianapolis Colts

This Sunday in an AFC South battle, the Indianapolis Colts will clash with the Tennessee Titans.

In this game the Colts are in desperate need of a victory. The Colts will be a lock for the playoffs if they win their game or the Jaguars lose their game. They will be out of the playoffs for the first time in years if they yet lose and the Jaguars win. Even though the Titans have a great chance to play spoiler and end the season with a bang, they have nothing at stake.

The total for the game is set at 48 whereas the Colts will be the 9.5 point favorites in NFL betting Odds in Week 17.

Against the Colts defensively the Titans should really struggle. They will be taking on one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL as they have one of the worst pass defenses in the league. You can expect Manning to come with his “A” game with the season on the line while he has not been as good recently.

The Colts can be exploited as they have a run defense that struggles whereas the Titans will require getting their running game going. In order to have a big week, look for Chris Johnson. Putting pressure on Collins and making him make mistakes, what the Colts will need to do. He has a bad reputation for lacking the ability to protect the football. Often the Titans will really struggle to get things going offensively and whether Mathis and Freeney can get to Collins early. The Colts are favorites in this game.
